An estimated five million Americans were living with Alzheimer’s disease in 2013, and that number is expected to rise to 14 million by 2050, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although scientists do not fully understand what causes the illness,  researchers are making advances to help patients and their families manage the disease.

Learn about the latest research in the fight to cure neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Parkinson ’s during Augusta University’s  2^nd Annual Brain Health Symposium. This free event is being held Saturday, June 23, in the J. Harold Harrison, M.D. Education Commons and attendees will learn practical pointers on how to care for those battling these disorders.

Keynote speakers include Dr. Julie Kurek, assistant professor of Neurology at the Medical College of Georgia; Dr. James Lah, director of the Cognitive Neurology Program at Emory University; and Dr. John Morgan, director of the Movement and Memory Disorder Clinic at the Medical College of Georgia.
