New and returning faculty plus those whose roles support the university were welcomed to campus at Monday’s Fall Kick-Off, held at the Maxwell Theatre on the Summerville Campus.
Hosted by Dr. Gretchen Caughman, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, the event gave Caughman and President Brooks Keel the chance to look back on recent successes while also looking to the future.
“There’s so much to remember,” Caughman said after running through a list of campus milestones, including the Dental College of Georgia’s 50th anniversary and the College of Nursing’s 75th. “But so much is happening now.”
That future includes the impending relocation of the College of Science and Math to the Health Sciences Campus, launching the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences and the July, 2018, opening of the Hull McKnight Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center, which Keel singled out as a flashpoint for continued growth and attention.
“That’s going to shine a spotlight on this town, on this university and on this community like nothing we’ve seen before,” he said.
Keel also encouraged the assembled faculty to mingle with their colleagues from the other campuses.
“That’s a great way of bridging the short distance between the Summerville Campus and the Health Sciences Campus,” he said.
