It’s time to start planning for the President’s Gala, so mark your calendars for Oct. 19.
This year, however, things are going to be a little different.
For one thing, Augusta University’s annual celebration to support students is going to be on a Friday night rather than the typical Saturday night. And instead of the traditional sit down dinner, this year’s evening is built around a symphony performance featuring acclaimed guest conductor Andre Thomas and our own Wycliffe Gordon, who was recently named the director of jazz studies.
The addition of the concert dovetails nicely with the Maxwell Theatre’s 50th anniversary celebration, and given the venue’s large size, it also means the popular event is open to even more people.
Proceeds from the black tie gala will benefit the university’s fine arts programs and our creative and talented students.
As honorary chairperson Mary S. Byrd works hard to get the word out, organizers want to stress that contrary to popular belief, the fun filled evening is not an invitation only affair. This event is open to all ticket holders, so go to the President’s Gala webpage to order your tickets today.
