Dr. Angela Morgan, chair of the Department of Music in Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Augusta University, is proud to welcome April Brumfield to the department as assistant professor of music industry and commercial music.
“April comes with a tremendous depth of experience in both higher education and the ever-changing music business world of booking and touring management,” said Morgan. “She is a seasoned professional and an innovator in this business and we are so excited to have her join our music faculty full-time.”
“I am thrilled to be part of Augusta University’s music department, and am looking forward to working to expand the music industry studies program from an online certificate to a full degree program,” Brumfield said.
“I’ve been developing curriculum and teaching online courses for AU’s certificate in music industry for three years now, and have enjoyed working with the music faculty thus far and can’t wait to begin recruiting and expanding the program.”
Brumfield’s experience includes 25 years in music marketing, artist management, nonprofit and development.
Most recently, Brumfield served as assistant professor and coordinator of music industry studies at Eastern Kentucky University, where she developed a joint program with the College of Business and advised all students in both programs.
She also is managing director of Brumfield & Associates Music, a boutique artist management company that handles the career of a select group of touring artists in jazz and classical genres, including Augusta University’s Director of Jazz Studies Wycliffe Gordon.
Throughout her higher ed career, Brumfield has developed curriculum and courses unique to the music business and has mentored students to positions with symphony orchestras, record labels, artist management firms and performing arts centers across the country.
Prior to her career in higher education, Brumfield worked in New York City managing the careers of renowned classical musicians, including Jean-Pierre Rampal, Alfred Brendel, the Juilliard String Quartet and Zuill Bailey, among others. She also held positions with the Cincinnati Opera and the Lexington Philharmonic in the areas of marketing and development.
Brumfield is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with a Master of Arts in Arts Administration and has an online Business of Music Production Specialization from Berklee College of Music. She is an accomplished trumpet player as well and performs regularly.
