Miss Augusta University scholarship pageant helps with student engagement

Over the last couple of years – and especially since undergraduate students began living on campus at Oak Hall – Augusta University’s Department of Student Life & Engagement has been working on building more student life opportunities.

One way they are doing this is by showcasing the Jaguar spirit through their Miss Augusta University Scholarship Pageant. Similar to larger schools in the state, Miss Augusta University offers students the chance to engage with the greater university community.

“The pageant offers them the opportunity to take on the responsibility of being a representative of the institution on a bigger scale,” said Paul Bradley Jr, program coordinator for student involvement. “For Miss Augusta University, the women representing AU in the state of Georgia is a great resource, and they’re tapping into connections that I think students weren’t able to in the past.”

Amanda Mines, a sophomore nursing major and 2018 Miss Augusta University, also believes the pageant offers more opportunities for student engagement.

“I think having a student representing the university like this makes Augusta University more student-centered,” Mines said. “So far I’ve been able to participate in Pig Out and Pause for Paws.”

Plans are in the works for her to make some more appearances including Finals Feast sponsored by SLE.

This upcoming spring 2018 semester SLE and the Jaguar Production CREW will host AU’s Inaugural Mr. Augusta University Mar. 15. The next information session to be held this semester is Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. in the JSAC Butler Meeting Room.
