Military ethics expert shares tips on becoming a trusted leader

Hundreds of students, faculty, and community leaders filled Augusta University’s Jaguar Student Activities Center Ballroom on Jan. 31 to hear thought-leader and military ethicist Anthony Randall share his ideas on developing trusted leaders. This event was part of the James M. Hull College of Business’ 2018 Russell A. Blanchard Distinguished Lecturer in Ethics Series, a program made possible by an endowment from Georgia Bank & Trust in memory of Dr. Russell A. Blanchard.

With his thought-provoking questions like “who benefits from us,” Randall’s lecture challenged attendees to establish a foundation of integrity through the process of forgiveness, healing, and trust.

“As leaders, if we develop trustworthy families and businesses, our communities will follow suit,” said Randall. “We all have experience betrayal or rejection which is why regaining and maintaining trust is imperative in all facets of life.”

Randall went on to explain how integrity is a virtue that begins at home and not in the marketplace.

“No other success can compensate for the failure in the home,” Randall said. “No matter how well you succeed in business, remember that true success begins in the home and with yourself.”

Randall is the founder of Vanguard XXI, LLC., a consulting company providing leadership training to pastors, executives, and high-performance organizations such as the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Free Methodist Church, the University of Colorado Executive MBA program, Emory University, and Georgia State University’s Robinson School of Business.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from West Point and received his master’s degrees from Emory University and Denver Seminary. He also graduated from the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College, and is currently pursuing a doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary.
