A couple dress up as Woody and Jessie from Toy Story for Match Day as they open their envelopes for their residency

MCG students enjoy the moment of Match Day

It’s a day medical students will never forget, Match Day – the day they find out where they match for their residency. For 244 Medical College of Georgia students, it was the culmination of hard work and dedication as this is one of their final steps before they start their careers as doctors.

Each year Match Day features a theme, and this year’s theme was the 2000s and pop culture that surrounded the turn of the century. Most students dressed up as a way to take some of the stresses of the day, waiting for the big moment of opening their envelopes.

“I think I’m just looking forward to getting into rural and underserved communities,” said Cayman Bickerstaff. “There’s a lot of barriers to clear, and they’re shutting down a lot of L&Ds (labor and delivery units) across the country. So getting out into those communities to provide care is my goal.”

For Maddie Horinek and Anish Sangari, they did the couples match.

“I’m getting into pediatrics, and I can’t wait to help treat children,” said Horinek.

“We are a couple matching together so I’m excited, and I can’t wait to go wherever we go,” said Sangari.
