Fourth-year students from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University will participate in Match Day — the annual celebration when medical students across the nation find out where they’ll spend the next phase of their training — Friday, March 15.
Festivities in Augusta will begin at 11:45 a.m., with envelopes being passed out at noon in the Maxwell Theatre on AU’s Summerville Campus, 2500 Walton Way. Festivities in Athens at the AU/University of Georgia Medical Partnership, MCG’s second four-year campus, will begin at 11:45 a.m. in George Hall on the UGA Health Sciences Campus.
Each year the nation’s senior medical students are matched with postgraduate training programs in specialties like family medicine and neurosurgery. Each February, after interviews and visits to residency programs, seniors across the country rank hospitals where they’d like to complete their training, and hospital residency programs rank the students. Rankings are submitted to the National Resident Matching Program in Washington, DC. Pairings are announced simultaneously at U.S. medical schools during Match Day. Graduates of osteopathic and foreign schools as well as U.S. graduates who want to change residency programs also participate.
MCG’s Match Day festivities in Augusta will be live-streamed at augusta.edu/stream.
