After the tragedy in Parkland, Florida, many business have been put under pressure for their connections with the National Rifle Association. While many have severed their ties with the NRA, Atlanta-based Delta is receiving some pushback by Georgia Lawmakers. In retaliation against Delta’s decision to remove discounts for NRA members, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle tweeted a call to reinstate a Georgia tax on jet fuel. Other businesses, like Amazon, are watching the move closely.
“It’s not good economic policy to threaten one of the largest employers in your state,” said Dr. William Hatcher, director of the master in public administration program at Augusta University. “You see the political logic in trying to fire up the base. But it’s also risky.”
