A new module on Jagwire’s University page provides a list of noncampus volunteer opportunities to help Augusta University faculty, students and staff identify community service opportunities. The module is located beneath the calendar of events on the right side of the University page.
The Community Service Committee developed the module because they felt it was important to provide a list of approved volunteer opportunities existing outside the university.
“Community service is an important aspect of the faculty role and is a requirement for many students, particularly those on the Health Sciences Campus, “said Dr. Lovoria Williams, associate professor in the College of Nursing and chair of the Community Service Committee. “However, there lacked a place to find what opportunities are available.”
The Community Service Committee developed a special form specifically for this module. The committee encourages users to submit information regarding events such as walks/runs, food drives, tutoring opportunities, etc. The committee vets submissions to ensure they follow established guidelines.
The volunteer list will hopefully assist faculty and students in fulfilling any service requirements and encourage all faculty, students and staff to volunteer as this is a win-win and as it also increases Augusta University’s exposure within the community. Visit the Community Volunteer Opportunities module for more information and to submit calendar events.
