Cyclists, runners and walkers came together with the Georgia Cancer Center at Augusta University to celebrate current cancer research projects while raising money for the future of cancer care through PaceDay 2025.
Thanks to the Augusta University community, those participants for PaceDay had quite the welcome as they went past the Cancer Center’s M. Bert Storey Research Building with a huge number of volunteers cheering them onto the finish line.
“It was wonderful riding by the Georgia Cancer Center and seeing so many of our staff, faculty, trainees and friends coming together to celebrate the people participating in PaceDay 2025,” said Jorge E. Cortes, MD, director of the Georgia Cancer Center. “It is an honor to be part of this event to celebrate cancer survivors, as well as our cancer researchers and the passion and dedication both bring to their experiences. I cannot thank the community enough for their support year after year and being willing to participate in PaceDay to raise money for all our research projects.”

According to Paceline, there were 770 participants registered for the event, the most ever to sign up since Paceline’s creation in the fall of 2018. All those taking part ended their day at the Augusta Common in downtown Augusta with food, fellowship and musical entertainment.
“PaceDay is the culmination of all the planning my team does to host an event that supports the innovative research happening at the Georgia Cancer Center,” said Martyn Jones, president of PACELINE. “It is incredible to see all the participants who show up ready at the start line after weeks and months of fundraising activities. And this year, we saw a huge amount of excitement for the 5K run/walk option, almost doubling 2023’s turnout. This means even more people participating and raising money for cancer research projects that will help define the future of cancer care locally with the potential to have global impact.”
On top of the ride and 5K run/walk events, PaceDay also featured the Spin Zone, where participants could take a spin class at the Common as part of their PaceDay 2025 participation, thanks to the partnership of Cycle Bar. Each instructor made sure their class remembered that every mile and every donation can mean a future where more people are surviving a cancer diagnosis.
While PaceDay 2025 may be over, that does not mean the donations have to stop. You can still donate toward Paceline’s $500,000 goal for this year’s fundraising total.
