The Augusta University men’s basketball team hosted its second Education Day game of December, this time with fifth graders from Columbia County School District in attendance, on Dec. 18 at Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jaguars defeated Reinhardt University 86-64 in front of the more than 2,000 students.

Earlier in the month, the Jaguars hosted fifth graders from Richmond County School System, defeating Brewton-Parker College 86-73. Both games were sponsored by Queensborough National Bank & Trust Co.

“It worked out perfectly today,” said men’s head coach Dip Metress. “We couldn’t have done this without Queensborough and the Columbia County schools. We had some schools out here as early as 9:30 a.m. It was a little quiet to start, but once we got some music going and got their energy levels up, everyone got involved, and it looked like they had a good time.”

In the win over Reinhardt, David Viti, Demitri Gardner, Carson Seemann and Max Amadasun all scored in double figures. Gardner led the Jaguars with 17 points, while Viti chipped in 14. Amadasun had 13 points and nine rebounds, and Seeman added 10 points. Ja’Queze Kirby had 10 rebounds and nine points as all 10 AU players who saw action scored and added a rebound.

As a unit, AU scored 14 points off turnovers. The Jaguars outscored the Eagles 44-28 in the paint and 26-10 on fast breaks while leading for more than 38 minutes in the 40-minute contest.
