AUGUSTA, Ga. – GRU Augusta Athletics and the Shepeard Community Blood Center will present the second annual “Hoops for Heroes Blood Drive Challenge,” a competition between GRU Augusta and USC Aiken during the week of Feb. 9-13, to benefit the local blood supply.
To donate on behalf of GRU, stop by the bloodmobile near the JSAC on the Summerville Campus on Feb. 9, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Participants in the on-campus blood drive are invited to enjoy free pizza from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. at the bloodmobile unit.
The Shepeard Community Blood Center will host blood drives at each collegiate campus and all three of Shepeard’s fixed locations from Feb. 9-13. The blood drive challenge is open to all students, faculty/staff, alumni, fans, supporters, and the general public. When donating at a center, use the following group code to ensure that your donation is credited to GRU: # 1000 or tell the front desk receptionist the school you are donating to support.
All “Hoops for Heroes” donors will receive a special “Hoops for Heroes” T-shirt, and the winning school will be announced at the GRU vs. USC Aiken men’s basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 14, in Aiken at the Convocation Center. The school with the most presenting blood donors, during the entire competition, will be presented with a trophy at halftime of the men’s basketball game and be declared 2015’s “Hoops for Heroes” Champion!
