In 2013, nearly a third of all deaths in the United States were linked to cardiovascular disease or stroke. More than 2,200 Americans die daily from these diseases, or roughly one every 40 seconds.
The American Heart Association works around the clock to fight back through education, advocacy and research. A great deal of that game-changing research takes place right here, at Augusta University.
To put that into perspective, here’s what some of that change looks like:
In 2016, Augusta University received more AHA funding than any other research institution in the state. ($2.3 million)
Augusta University was also awarded 17 new heart-health-related research grants, bringing the institution’s total to 31 active grants.
The total value of awards? $4,984,514
But we can do better.
The Heart Walk is AHA’s premier event for raising funds to save lives from heart disease and stroke. Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk creates an environment that’s fun and rewarding for the entire family.
Your participation helps raise even more in the fight to save lives.
This year’s CSRA Heart Walk takes place on March 11, 2017, at the North Augusta Greeneway at 9 a.m.
