ROSWELL, Ga. – Augusta University women’s golf four-year starter, Jessica Haigwood, qualified for the 117th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, which will be contested Aug. 7-13 at San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif. Haigwood shot a 69 (-3) to win the 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier at Ansley Golf Club’s Settindown Creek Course on Tuesday, June 28.
“I went into this qualifier with a lot of confidence. It’s my home course and I knew that a low score was possible,” Haigwood said. “I just want to have fun and give this tournament one last try.”
Haigwood and Rinko Mitsunaga, both of Roswell, Ga., tied at 3-under-par 69 to share medalist honors. The next three qualifiers were Kayla Jones of Alpharetta, Ga. (72), Natalie Srinivasan of Spartanburg, S.C. (73), and Grayson Gladden of Helena, Ala. (73).
There was a playoff for the final qualifying spot between Shannon Aubert of France and Emmy Martin of Odessa, Fla. who posted rounds of 74. They both made par on the first two playoff holes (Holes #1 & #7) but it was Aubert who birdied the third playoff hole (Hole #8) to secure the final qualifying spot. Martin will be the first alternate.
