GRU student receives scholarship from American Proficiency Institute

Traverse City, MI – Sydney Knapp, a senior at Georgia Regents University, is one of five students nationwide to receive a $2,000 scholarship from the American Proficiency Institute (API).

“It is interesting to learn how these students are exposed initially to the laboratory,” noted Daniel C. Edson, President of API. “Once their passion was ignited, these student scholars have excelled in the medical laboratory science field.  We are pleased to support the future of the laboratory profession through these scholarships.”

“Microscopy has always fascinated me,” explained Ms. Knapp. “I hope to be the person that others turn to when the equipment needs troubleshooting, when a particular cell cannot be identified, or when interested students come for an unexpected tour in the middle of peak hour.”

Barbara Kraj, MS, MLS(ASCP)^CMMB^CM, Associate Professor and CLS Program Director at Georgia Regents University, enthusiastically recommended Ms. Knapp noting her record of “volunteering at the Red Cross, Veterans Administration Medical Center, the University of Georgia microbiology laboratory” and serving as a “student forum representative to the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science”.
