Get pedaling with JagRide

As Augusta University’s campus community continues to expand, the institution is making it a little easier to get around campus with the launching of JagRide, a new 24-hour bike sharing system.

The university has partnered with mobility company Gotcha to offer JagRide so faculty, staff and students can have point-to-point transportation and even use the bikes for long scenic rides. Gotcha’s bike services will include siting, installation, operation, maintenance and ongoing management of the system in partnership with the university.

The JagRide system will include 18 GPS-enabled, three-speed gear pedal bikes, and students and staff can access bikes for free for the first 30 minutes per day and $5 per hour after the first 30 minutes.

“Gotcha’s bike share system offers a transportation solution that is easy to access, good for the environment, promotes physical activity and exercise, and keeps costs down compared to building more parking lots and garages,” said LeDarius Scott, President of Augusta University’s Student Government Association. “Our partnership with Gotcha assists in Augusta’s goal for becoming a healthier, more sustainable, active campus.”

To get started, download the Social Bicycle app in either Google Play  or the Apple Store on your smartphone and create an account using your university email address. Next, unlock the bike by entering the account number as well as the four-digit PIN on the bike’s keypad. Once your ride is done, park and lock the bike in a designated hub on the Summerville, Riverfront or Health Sciences campuses. View map of hub locations.

Bikes can be reserved up to 15 minutes before you pick up the bike. Users who cancel their reservation within one minute of reserving will not be penalized against their allotted free time. Cancellations beyond a minute will be penalized, and the timer will expire after 15 minutes resulting in the bike becoming available for others to rent.

Get a first look at the new bikes during the JagRide ribbon cutting ceremony being held at 12:25 p.m. on Jan. 15 on the Jaguar Student Activities Center Patio on the Summerville campus.
