Clarification as of 7:40 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9:
Students who would have been on Fall Pause (primarily “Summerville” students) will start Fall Pause on Wednesday. They will have Fall Pause on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Students who would not have been on Fall Pause (primarily “Health Sciences” students) should attend classes on Wednesday until noon. Classes meeting on Wednesday afternoon/evening are canceled.
A decision will be made tomorrow regarding classes meeting on Thursday. You can expect an update tomorrow.
Announcement as of 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9:
As we closely monitor Hurricane Michael, current forecasts indicate tropical force winds and rain will begin impacting the Augusta area midday tomorrow, bringing between three and five inches of rain.
In the interest of safety, tomorrow’s grand opening of the M. Bert Story Cancer Research Building has been rescheduled. Additionally, Fall Pause for only undergraduate students on the Summerville campus will now be tomorrow, Thursday and Friday to facilitate safe travels for students. All other operations on the Summerville campus will continue as normal with faculty and staff reporting to work.
All other graduate classes on Augusta’s Summerville, Forest Hills, Health Sciences, and Riverfront campuses will conclude at noon tomorrow. More information about graduate classes for rest of the week will be provided in another update.
Faculty, staff and students on the university’s satellite campuses are encouraged to follow the guidelines of the administrators on their host campus.
The Atrium Dining Hall will be open until noon tomorrow. After which, students can use their meal plans or purchase food in the dining areas of the medical center.
As a reminder, all health system employees are considered essential personnel and are encouraged to begin making preparations in the event of worsening weather conditions.
