Dental faculty, students awarded during International College of Dentists luncheon

At a recent Georgia Section of the International College of Dentists (ICD) Luncheon, two students and a faculty member from The Dental College of Georgia were recognized for their outstanding leadership.

Dr. Alan Furness, assistant professor in the department of Oral Rehabilitation, was awarded the ICD Faculty Leadership Award. Furness was selected based on his example of integrity for students and other faculty and his demonstrated willingness to use new resources to improve the education of his students.

For the first time, two outstanding third-year dental students, Abby Halpern and Michael Hall, were presented with the ICD Student Leadership Award. Halpern serves as president of the DCG Chapter of the American Student Dental Association. She is also the national chairman of the ASDA Council on Advocacy. Hall serves as the DCG chapter and national president of the Student Professionalism and Ethics Association.

“We are proud of Dr. Furness, Abby and Michael,” said Dr. Carol Lefebvre, dean of The Dental College of Georgia. “All three recipients are outstanding leaders and deserve the recognition of their efforts at the DCG and for the profession.”
