Augusta University will celebrate the academic achievements of the Class of 2016 at today’s 2 p.m. commencement ceremony at the James Brown Arena.
President Brooks A. Keel, PhD, whose recent inauguration served as the ceremonial beginning of the spring’s award and recognition season, will serve as commencement speaker, while C. Thomas Hopkins Jr., a member of the Board of Regents, will give remarks.
This year’s commencement ceremony will be the first under the university’s new branding, which was unveiled in January. Of particular interest is the new mace, which had a limited debut at Keel’s investiture ceremony, but will be revealed with a special flourish today.
The ceremony will also include the commissioning of a graduating ROTC cadet and the award of a posthumous degree to the family of Charles Davis, a student who died in March just a few credits shy of earning his history degree. Both his wife and son are also students.
