Mold is a fungus that can be found inside home, in damp and moist places, and outside the home, in decaying leaves and dirty gutters. The tiny spores it gives off can easily be inhaled and cause allergy symptoms.
“Mold allergy can develop when your immune system has a hyper reaction to the fungal spores. This can lead to classic symptoms of nasal allergies like sneezing, runny nose and congestion,” says Dr. Michael Blaiss, clinical professor of pediatrics at Medical College of Georgia and executive medical director for the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
