Augusta University to require SAT/ACT scores for 2026-27 academic year

Augusta University opened the application for the 2026-27 academic year on Aug. 1. Prospective Jaguars should know that ACT and SAT test scores will once again be required for first-year admission.

“We encourage students to take the SAT or ACT in their junior year of high school, but it’s not too late for seniors,” said Amy Smith, EdD, associate vice president of Enrollment Management. “There are national tests offered nearly every month with free test prep materials available on the SAT and ACT websites. Most of our current freshmen included SAT or ACT scores in their application materials, so we don’t believe this will be much of a change for new applicants. Also, students can apply now and send their official test scores after they take the exam.”

This move reflects a broader trend as many colleges and universities – such as the University of Tennessee, Harvard University and the University of Miami (FL.) – return to standardized testing.

The University System of Georgia selected Augusta University as one of seven institutions in the 26-institution system to require SAT/ACT scores, alongside the University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, Georgia College and State University, Kennesaw State University and Georgia Southern University.

While test requirements have been standard practice in the past, USG temporarily waived them for 23 of the system’s 26 institutions beginning in 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2026-27 academic year admission deadlines for first-year students:

  • Early Action application deadline: Oct. 31, 2025
  • Scholarship application deadline: Feb. 1, 2026
  • National College Decision Day: May 1, 2026
  • Final admission application deadline: July 1, 2026

Students with a recalculated high school GPA of 3.4+ applying for Spring 2026 or Summer 2026 terms may be eligible for admission without official test scores.

“We are excited to kick off the 2026 application cycle,” said Susan Davies, PhD, executive vice president for Enrollment and Student Affairs. “AU welcomed the largest freshman class in its history this fall, and we look forward to supporting this year’s seniors through the application process.”
