Augusta University hosting Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K

Augusta University is proud to serve as the host site and as a sponsor of the 2025 Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K presented by Wier/Stewart on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The three races, which are owned, managed and organized by the Augusta Sports Council, will all start and end on Walker Street on the Summerville campus next to the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. Each course will take runners into the Summerville neighborhood before returning to campus via Taylor Street.

“Augusta University is thrilled to host the 17th annual Augusta Half Marathon on our Summerville Campus,” said AU President Russell T. Keen. “The Augusta Sports Council has done a tremendous job organizing and building it into one of the premier events for area runners. It is an excellent opportunity to share this beautiful campus with the community in a way that promotes healthy lifestyles while raising money for the G.A.M.E.S. Scholarship fund for graduating high school student-athletes in the Augusta community.”

The half marathon will begin at 7:15 a.m., the 10K will take off at 7:25 a.m. and the 5K will begin at 7:45 a.m. There is also a virtual option for all three events, and there will be a Medals for Miles youth fun run for children in kindergarten up through the third grade.

“Hosting the Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K allows us to share the beauty of Augusta University’s Summerville Campus while strengthening our community connections,” said Suzanne Tatum, deputy chief of staff and associate vice president for AU’s Office of External Relations.

Proceeds from this annual event, now in its 17th year, benefit the ASC’s mission and the annual G.A.M.E.S. Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to selected graduating high school student-athletes each year. The Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K courses are certified by USA Track and Field and are qualifiers for the AJC Peachtree Road Race.

The event is also part of the CSRA Hat Trick Challenge, where participants can race in the Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K, the Triple Crown Road Race 5K/10 miler in Aiken on March 8 and the Palmetto Peach Half Marathon/10K/5K in North Augusta in November to complete the challenge.

“As a graduate of the university, hosting one of our main events on campus during homecoming weekend feels like a full circle moment,” said Michelle Pippin, CEO of the Augusta Sports Council. “We appreciate our ongoing partnership with Augusta University, which allows us to have our start and finish line on campus this year, and our team is excited to see the runners experience race day at a new unique location.

Members of AU’s men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s track and field teams will serve as official pacers during the races, helping runners achieve their time goals.

The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime of the men’s game. The women’s tennis team will close out the weekend by hosting Brenau University at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Saturday will also feature AU’s annual tailgate, hosted by the AU Alumni Association on the Forest Hills Campus.
