Meet the Class of 2018

A closer look at the numbers behind this year’s graduating class

On Friday, Augusta University will confer 1,232 degrees during its spring 2018 commencement ceremony. It takes place at 2 p.m. May 11 in the James Brown Arena.

A total of 1,173 students are expected to graduate, with 59 receiving multiple degrees. Of that number, 65 are self-identified first-generation graduates, 62 of whom will graduate with a bachelor’s degree. Another 35 self-identified as legacy graduates, meaning students with one or more immediate family members who previously attended Augusta University or one of the university’s legacy institutions.

More than 130 graduating students have a military status code associated with their name. This includes veterans, active duty military and the spouses and dependents of active or retired military personnel.

The Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences will confer two posthumous degrees.

No matter how you add up the numbers, though, the result is always the same: Come Friday, there will be a new generation of Jaguars out in the world doing incredible things. Read about a few of them here on Jagwire.
