Golf tournaments offer something for everyone

In the mood for a good game of golf? Looking for a fun way to spend time with family and friends?

Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered.

Coming up near the end of September are three very exciting opportunities for local golfers and golf enthusiasts alike.

3rd Annual 12Bands Classic – Sept. 22

Starting off the festivities on Tuesday, Sept. 22, is the 3rd Annual 12Bands Classic. Held to benefit pediatric cancer patients and their families at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, this four-man-scramble tournament  is sure to prove both fun and entertaining.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Jones Creek Golf Club with a shotgun start to follow at 1 p.m. The fee to register is $600, but covers the cost of all four players, green fees, carts, tees, range balls and lunch.

Awards will be given for the longest drive, closest to the pin, hole-in-one and for tournament winners. Mulligans are $5 each, with a max of four available per player.

For more information about the 12Bands Classic, contact Ash Smith at 706-650-6000 or ash@blanchardcalhounins.com.

2015 GRU Urology Golf Tournament – Sept. 26

On Saturday, Sept. 26, the 2015 GRU Urology Golf Tournament kicks off at the Gordon Lakes Golf Club in Fort Gordon. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. Door prizes will be given away for golfers, and raffle tickets will be sold (prizes to be announced).

A portion of all proceeds from this event goes to the Prostate Cancer Foundation through the “Arnie’s Army Battles Prostate Cancer” program.

In addition to prizes from Arnie’s Army for the “Closest to the Pin” and “Longest Drive” contests, local sponsor Taylor Hyundai is hosting another Hole-in-One Contest. The prize? A brand new car.

The GRU Faculty & Staff Golf Tournament – Oct. 3

On Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Forest Hills Golf Club, a beloved (and hilarious) Augusta tradition continues with the return of the annual GRU Faculty & Staff Golf Tournament.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., served up alongside a continental breakfast, followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m., with lunch to round out the day.

There’s fun for everyone in the tournament’s beginner-friendly, team-focused format. And, as evidenced by some of last year’s scores, this event is not strictly for seasoned golfers, so everyone is welcome to participate.

The cost to participate is $35.

Keep in mind though that all participants must register by Sept. 30. Those interested in playing (including family of faculty/staff members) are encouraged to register at the following link as soon as possible: giving.gru.edu/golf.
