With the holiday season in full swing, the Augusta University Police Department has 10 tips to keep the JagNation community safe.
- Shop during daylight hours whenever possible. If you must shop at night, go with a friend or family member.
- If you feel unsafe about any location for any reason, leave.
- Even though you might be rushed and thinking about many things, stay alert to your surroundings.
- Never let your purse or other personal belongings leave your sight: It only takes a second for a thief to strike.
- Avoid overloading yourself with packages. It is important to have clear visibility and freedom of motion to avoid mishaps.
- Store your packages in the trunk of your car.
- Park in a well-lit area as close as possible to store entrances.
- When shopping online, only purchase goods from websites you know to be legitimate. Check with the Better Business Bureau if unsure.
- Check your bank and credit card statements regularly. If you see unauthorized activity, contact your financial institution immediately.
- Avoid leaving the boxes for expensive items like TVs and PCs out for trash collection, to prevent thieves from knowing exactly what you have in your residence.
