Augusta University partners with Chalk & Wire to evaluate student achievement

Augusta University’s College of Education and Office of Experiential Learning have teamed up with Chalk & Wire, an educational assessment technology platform, to evaluate evidence of student achievement using CWPro.

“We chose to work with Chalk & Wire because they represent the ‘university standard’ for assessment and compliance and presented us with a solution that could offer us data to inform our practice in an ongoing way,” said Dr. Zach Kelehear, dean of the College of Education. “The company’s technology excellence, strong ethics and understanding of our accrediting needs have made them a true partner for our university.”

The program will track students’ program knowledge in their coursework, as well as insight derived from experiential learning opportunities. Additionally, Chalk & Wire will allow students to develop ePortfolios to help them showcase their abilities to potential employers, essential for teacher candidates.

Augusta University faculty will evaluate evidence of achievement and provide timely and relevant feedback to learners via text and audio comments. Additionally, faculty can offer critical feedback on a student’s teaching video clips to help improve the student’s teaching skills.

“Chalk & Wire offers many different layers of reliable academic assessment data for measuring student performance, as well as how the College of Education is progressing at the course level and program level,” said Dr. Judi Wilson, associate dean of the College of Education. “Reporting tools and data will help us prepare for upcoming accreditation processes, as we can use collaborative workspaces to dynamically author narratives, delegate tasks and discuss assessment findings.”

Augusta University’s Office of Experiential Learning is also using CWPro to measure student progress towards learning outcomes as they are related to field placements, service work, internships, and clinical rounds, as well as other learning opportunities. The university’s inaugural Learning by Doing Quality Enhancement Plan, augments student learning and offers a leadership certificate for undergraduate students who engage in new coursework, achieve new learning outcomes, and are exposed to new experiential learning opportunities.

Additionally, the integration between CWPro and Augusta University’s learning management system, D2L’s Brightspace, enables the institution to offer a more seamless learning experience for both students and faculty. Embedding the assessment and feedback loop fosters authentic assessment without requiring multiple logins or double assessment. This workflow simultaneously captures this evidence of learning to meet accreditation requirements.
