Governor’s Office of Highway Safety grant helps Student Wellness expand alcohol education programming

Augusta University’s Student Wellness Program has received an $8,775.01 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

The grant, which will continue through September of 2017, will help finance informational booths and presentations, the hiring of a Student Wellness Assistant, the expansion of the university’s Peer Education Program and a number of interactive events including a DUI simulator during Safe Spring Break Week and OctSober Fest.

Olivia Fuchs, Student Wellness Coordinator, said receiving the grant from GOHS was an honor.
“I can remember learning about the Seven Dimensions of Wellness in my undergrad, and now I get the opportunity to share this valuable information with our university,” Fuchs said. “The GOHS grant will give us the chance to do so by expanding our alcohol education programming…”

The newly formed Student Wellness Program is dedicated to providing students with various opportunities to enhance their wellbeing through a combination of preexisting and newly formed programs that encompass the Seven Dimensions of Wellness – a model developed in 1976 by Dr. Bill Hettler, co-founder of the National Wellness Institute.
