Augusta University to host middle school Model United Nations Conference

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Students from local middle schools will engage in world politics as they attend the second annual middle school Model United Nations Conference on Wednesday, March 16, at Augusta University.

“We want to expose young Americans to the complexity of international relations and help them see the world from different perspectives,” said Craig Albert, assistant professor of political science and director of the Model U.N. program at Augusta University. “Having that skill is essential for them to function in an interconnected world that is getting smaller by the day.”

Each spring, Augusta University hosts this conference to teach middle school students about the world through a simulation of the United Nations. Students debate issues of global concern with each middle school taking the stance of several member states.

This year, 110 students from nine middle schools will participate. More than 50 member states will be represented.

The conference will take place from 8:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Jaguar Student Activities Center at the Summerville Campus.
