Augusta University hosts Southeastern Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition

Augusta University hosted the Southeastern Regional Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC) for the second consecutive year on Oct. 10-11.

This year’s regional competition sponsors included Augusta University’s School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, BSidesAugusta and IBM. IBM is also a sponsor of the International CPTC competition.

As with many in-person events this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CPTC was held virtually for the first time.

“It was an honor to host the Southeastern Regional CPTC again this year. Having 125 students and volunteers at the Georgia Cyber Center last year was great and we hope to be able to do the same in the future,” said Steven Weldon, director of Augusta University’s Cyber Institute. “The National and Regional CPTC teams successfully modified this year’s competition to provide a safe, fun and competitive learning environment in this popular and rapidly growing international competition.”

This year’s participants:
  • Augusta University
  • Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio)
  • Florida Institute of Technology
  • Northern Virginia Community College
  • Texas A&M
  • University of Central Florida
  • University of Florida
  • University of New Hampshire
  • University of Texas at Austin
  • University of West Florida
Southeastern Regional CPTC winners:
  • First place: University of Central Florida
  • Second place: University of West Florida
  • Third place: University of Florida

The University of Central Florida, along with the other regional winners and wildcard teams, will advance to the International CPTC competition, slated for Jan. 7-10 in Rochester, New York.

Congratulations to this year’s participants!
