Summer is still weeks away, but with temperatures already topping 100 degrees, experts in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University are available to share tips to beat the heat.

Augusta University professor receives $260,000 for research

The Georgia Trauma Foundation, Georgia EMS Association and the Georgia Trauma Commission has awarded a grant of more than $260,000 to Melissa Bemiller, an assistant professor in Pamplin College’s Department of Social Sciences, to conduct research in partnership with the  Children’s Hospital of Georgia into the high child abuse and child mortality rates in the Central Savannah River Area. Children’s Pediatric Trauma Program Manager Kyndra Holm and Bemiller are both available to discuss the data.

Celebrating National Cancer Survivor Month

June is National Cancer Survivor Month, and the Georgia Cancer Center will be hanging lavender ribbons to celebrate those who have survived, inspire those recently diagnosed and offer support to families impacted by the disease. The ribbon-hanging will begin at noon Friday, June 7, at the Outpatient Services clinic located at 1411 Laney Walker Blvd.
