Get moving for the 2019 CSRA Heart Walk

You still have time to register for the 2019 CSRA Heart Walk and help the American Heart Association (AHA) raise money to save lives.

The CSRA Heart Walk is set for Saturday, March 9, at the Greeneway in Riverview Park in North Augusta. You may register to compete in the 5K or participate in the 3.1-mile fun walk.

The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premier event for raising funds to save lives from two of the nation’s top killers, heart disease and stroke. Dr. Vishal Arora, an interventional cardiologist in the Medical College of Georgia, is leading the university’s charge this year in making our community healthier while supporting the AHA.

“Walking is an activity that has immediate effects on our mental and physical health. So, let’s get in shape and, at the same time, give back to a truly beneficial organization,” said Arora.

As of this writing, Augusta University and AU Health have raised $99,353, with a goal set for $175,000. Help the institution reach its goal by signing up to be a part of an existing team or start your own. You can also make a personal contribution to another team on our AU Health Walk page.

Augusta University received over $5 million in research funding from the AHA last year, and this funding supports the important, life-saving work of 31 researchers at the institution.

“Our work with the AHA truly sets us apart as a health and educational system,” said Lee Ann Liska, chief executive officer at the Augusta University Medical Center and chair of the CSRA American Heart Association Board of Directors. “I am proud of the work we do to tackle heart disease and stroke, and I greatly appreciate the hundreds of employees who give their time and treasure to support this cause, which is so crucial to the university’s mission.”

Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk creates an environment that’s fun and rewarding for the whole family to participate in. Walk with friends, family and coworkers, and join hearts along the way. Sign up today.
