Former Jaguar Patrick Reed wins the Masters

Former Augusta Jaguar Patrick Reed never relinquished his lead all tournament and won The Masters at Augusta National on Sunday afternoon for his first career major on the PGA Tour.

It was Reed’s first major win in 17 starts. He is the fifth player to win his first Masters in his fifth start and the first since Jack Nicklaus did it in 1963. Never changing his approach, Reed shot 69 (-3) in round one on Thursday and followed it with a 66 (-6) and 67 (-5) on Friday and Saturday. Reed held off fellow Americans Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth with a final round of 1-under-par 71 on Sunday to secure his place in the history books.

Reed put on his green jacket just 5.2 miles away from the J. Fleming Norvell Golf House – the official practice facility of the Augusta University golf team where Reed spent two seasons, then named Augusta State University. Reed helped lead the Jags to back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 2010 and 2011 after he transferred to Augusta as a sophomore for the 2009-10 season. He earned two All-American honors and a pair of national titles, before turning pro after his junior season.

Now a steady threat on the PGA Tour, Reed has six wins and one on the European Tour. His best finishes in major championships are first at The Masters in 2018, tied for 2nd in the 2017 PGA Championship, tied for 12th in 2016 The Open Championship, tied for 13that the 2017 U.S. Open, and tied for 22nd at The Masters in 2015.
