AU Health employees must complete EMTALA training by March 31

All AU Health employees are reminded that the EMTALA training courses are now available online and must be completed by March 31, 2018.

EMTALA – the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act established that any person presenting to a dedicated emergency department, or in the main hospital building, or within 250 yards of the main hospital with an emergency, is entitled to an emergency medical screening exam and stabilizing treatment, including diagnostics and treatment to determine emergency condition and hospitalization if required.

AU Health provides EMTALA care without regard to payor status and free of financial coercion or encouragement to seek care elsewhere.

EMTALA training is required for all staff throughout the medical center, and, again, it must be completed by March 31. Employees who fail to complete the training and meet the deadline will not be allowed to work.

There has been confusion over where to access the training, because physicians must take the course provided on Workforce Learn Online, and all other disciplines should access the course via Healthstream online learning.

For your convenience, here are the two specific EMTALA training links:

Physicians, residents, other LIPs, and contracted security staff: Click here for WorkForce Learn Online.

All other disciplines will take the course through Healthstream by clicking here.

If you have questions about how to access the training courses in Healthstream or Workforce Online, please contact the Help Desk at 706-721-4000.
