Augusta MPA program now home to Journal of Public Affairs Education

The Augusta University Master of Public Administration program, in collaboration with North Carolina State’s Department of Public Administration, will house the Journal of Public Affairs Education (JPAE).

JPAE is the flagship journal of the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA), the international accrediting body of MPA programs.

Dr. William Hatcher, director of the MPA program and the journal’s co-editor, said the news was more than welcome.

“The Journal of Public Affairs Education helps NASPAA achieve its mission of being the global standard for public service education,” Hatcher said. “Housing JPAE in the Augusta University MPA program will increase the profile of the program and ensure that we are known around the world as a leader in public affairs education.”

Published quarterly by NASPAA, the JPAE was founded in 1995 by a consortium from the University of Kansas and the University of Akron. H. George Frederickson, a pillar of public administration research and a leading educator in the field, served as the journal’s first founding editor. He and his colleagues created the journal to encourage future public administration educators to focus more on teaching in scholarly discussions.

“JPAE’s legacy is an important one to uphold,” Hatcher said. “We hope to carry on their work and expand the journal’s focus on research that builds community-based partnerships.”

The announcement comes one week after the MPA program announced it had more than doubled its size since spring of 2016.
