Young volunteers participate in summer lunches with leaders

Chances are you’ve noticed some young folks walking around the health sciences campus wearing a new color of JagSwag. The highly coveted teal-green shirts were specially designed for the younger groups of volunteers at Augusta University and health system.

Dozens of summer teenage volunteers, a.k.a. VolunTeens, and college students, VolunJags, from high schools and college campuses across the CSRA have briefly joined our staff to experience the unique opportunity of working side-by-side with health care professionals in our world class academic medical center. These volunteers rub elbows with experts in a variety of fields, including some of our physicians who are ranked in the top 1 percent nationwide.

Additionally, summer VolunTeens participate in weekly leadership lunch-and-learn lectures featuring some of our top leaders. AU Health CEO Lee Ann Liska and Human Resources Training Specialist Kimberly Hayes kicked off the lunch series in early June with “The Leader In You.”

These “Adventures in Leadership” courses are based on the Leadership Challenge Workbook by Kouzes and Posner.

When you see the teal shirts this summer, be sure to make our volunteers feel welcome, and thank them for their service.
