Running with donuts encouraged at Downtown Dozen 5K and 10K

You know what would make an autumn run through downtown Augusta even better?

Running to support a good cause.

You know what would make it even better than that?

Donuts.

That’s the idea behind the Downtown Dozen 5K and 10K, a race created by Medical College of Georgia students to raise money for the Children’s Hospital of Georgia’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It’s like a normal charity run, but with a twist: In the middle of the race, runners stop to eat a dozen donuts before racing to the finish line.

If that sounds risky, relax – if you don’t think you’ve got the stomach to eat and run, you can always pick up your box at the end of the race. Think of it as being awarded 12 edible gold medals.

The race starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Telfair. Runners can pick up their numbers between 6:30-7:45 that morning. Race bags will be distributed as runners cross the finish line.

Sound like your kind of race? Check out the Downtown Dozen website for more information and to register.
