Dr. Ted Johnson receives rare second grant from Hyundai
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Dr. Ted Johnson, a researcher and physicians at the Georgia Cancer Center, will accept a $250,000 Hyundai Hope Grant from Hyundai Hope on Wheels (HHOW) and Augusta-area Hyundai dealers at a special handprint ceremony at 10 am Friday, September 16 at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. The award is being given in recognition and support of his pediatric neuro-oncology clinical trial. Early research which led to this trial was supported by a 2011 HHOW grant of $100,000. Dr. Johnson’s grant is one of only 24 awarded this year.
Guests and speakers at the ceremony will include:
- Russell Keen, Executive Vice President for External Relations and Chief of Staff to the President, Augusta University
- Lee Ann Liska, Executive Vice President for Health Affairs and Chief Executive Officer, August University Medical Center
- Theodore Johnson, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Medical College of Georgia
- Sue Wideman, mother of Jessica Wideman, a pediatric cancer patient
- Hyundai Motor America and local dealers
Children’s Hospital of Georgia was one of just 24 recipients across the country selected by a rigorous scientific review panel to receive the highly competitive grant.
