Students, administrators get sneak peek at new housing facilities

A group of Augusta University graduate students that have contracted for fall semester got a sneak peek last week of their new campus housing facility under construction on the Health Sciences Campus. The hard hat tour also allowed some faculty, administrators and admissions staff to preview Oak Hall and Elm Hall.

Augusta University’s Office of Housing and Residence Life and Corvias Campus Living, the developer of the project, led tours through the buildings that are located along 15th Street and revealed the features students will find when they move in this fall.

Oak Hall, the 412-bed undergraduate residence, offers two-bedroom private and semi-private suites, each with an en suite shared bathroom with stand-up shower. Each suite is fully furnished with twin beds, 3-drawer chests and a desk and desk chair. The private, two-bedroom suite also offers a sitting area with two chairs.

Oak Hall has kitchenette areas scattered throughout the building with oven and range and full-size refrigerator for student use. Students are expected to move in to Oak Hall on Aug. 13.

Elm Hall, the 312-bed residence hall designed for graduate, professional and non-traditional students, offers studio apartments; one-bed, one-bath apartments; and two-bed, two-bath apartments. Each suite is furnished with full beds, a sectional sofa, 3-drawer chest and two kitchen bar stools. Each kitchen has a breakfast bar, full-size refrigerator and full-size oven and range. Students are expected to move in on July 28.

Both Oak Hall and Elm Hall have dedicated laundry rooms on each floor with text technology notification, alerting the user when washing and drying cycles are finished.

Many of the students touring Elm Hall reacted with excitement upon learning the cost of laundry is included in the housing rate.

“I liked the news of the free laundry,” said Morgan Deal, a rising senior majoring in Clinical Laboratory Science. She has already submitted an application to live in Elm Hall starting this fall. She currently lives in the Alumni Center. “We’re definitely upgrading (from the Alumni Center). It’s bigger and better.”

Both residences are in walking distance of the Dental College of Georgia, the Student Center, J. Harold Harrison, M.D. Education Commons and Greenblatt Library. Each building has secure entry and a variety of gather and connect spaces for studying and resident interaction.
