Graduation Spotlight – Megan Dixon

“A new perspective.”

Why did you choose Augusta University?

“At the time, I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do, so staying in town for a couple of years and then transferring when I was more sure seemed like the best option for me.”

But you chose to stay. Why?

“I really enjoyed the Honors Program. I came in a semester after I started school, but it opened up a lot of opportunities for me and you meet professors who are really passionate about what they do and that gives you a new perspective on what you want to do with your academic career.”

Which professors would you say had the biggest impact on you?

“I would say Dr. Hartmann in the Department of Psychological Sciences. She helped me really realize that my goals were attainable through Psychology and helped me with my research and my thesis in ways that really refined my methods and how I approach research.”

What do you plan to do after graduating?

“I would like to go to graduate school, with the end goal of a PhD, and focus on animal behavior and neuroscience.”

What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?

“To realize that not everything is going to go the way they planned. Life is crazy and things are going to happen. Take the obstacles and the changes in stride.”
