Cerner’s Patient Flow System going live Dec. 15

Cerner’s Capacity Management Patient Flow system will be implemented hospital-wide on Dec.15, 2015. This new electronic bed management system will greatly improve patient throughput and increase both staff and patient satisfaction.

There are several key benefits that are associated with this system, a few of which are outlined here:

  • Provide real-time view of current bed availability, pending discharges, new bed requests and assignments
  • Automate processes to eliminate phone calls and duplication of effort
  • Automate critical requests or functions to Transport and EVS
  • Adoption and implementation of this system will increase visibility to:
    • Reduce:
      • Length of stay
      • ED wait time
      • Bed request cycle time
      • Number of STAT clean room requests
      • Duplication of effort
      • Manual logs | entry
    • Maintain positive transport turnarounds
    • Increase on-time patient discharges
    • Mitigate need for diversion

In preparation for this system implementation, which will affect the workflows of several groups, Learning Labs will be held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 14. Please see the table below for the learning lab schedule. These labs are open to all and will provide additional hands on practice for those who will be utilizing the system. Labs will be conducted by Kelly Olson (kolson@gru.edu). If a staff member’s role is affected by this system, they will be assigned an online learning course that is due to be completed by Dec. 14.  If they have been enrolled in the course, they will receive a confirmation email from HUMANRESOURCES_TRAINING. System Go Live will occur on Dec. 15, with support extending to Dec. 29.
