Georgia’s first cannabidiol trial patient hangs purple ribbons for epilepsy

Valerie and Preston Weaver work with Travis Garvin to hang a purple ribbon on a tree outside the Children’s Hospital of Georgia in recognition of Epilepsy Awareness Month in November.

Preston, 8, who has Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, became the first child in Georgia to receive cannabidiol oil as part of a clinical trial at Georgia Regents University on Epidiolex for the treatment of intractable seizures. Preston’s mom Valerie Weaver said that Preston has shown remarkable improvements since he began taking the medication in December 2014.
