GRU Rolls To 11-2 Victory At Paine College

Sophomore Clint Hardy and junior Drew Taylor both blasted two-run homeruns in this afternoon’s game against Paine College, as the Jaguars totaled 11 hits for 11 runs to take an 11-2 final on the road at Paine Wednesday afternoon in a rainy non-conference game at Lions Field.

GRU Augusta moved to 9-16 overall on the year, while the Paine College Lions now sit 13-16 overall.

Senior Kevin Dodson made his first start and his second appearance on the mound this season, getting the win in 4.0 innings. He recorded four strikeouts while only giving up two hits and two runs. Junior left-hander Frank Warren pitched 2.2 innings in relief, also striking out four while giving up one hit. Right-handed reliever, Adam Grice, closed out the game with 2.1 innings of work to allow no hits with two strikeouts.

In the third inning, Boose reached first on an error and scored when Hardy sent his third homerun of the season over the left field fence, earning him his first two RBI of the day.

Five of the Jags’ 11 runs were scored in the seventh inning, started by freshman, Jim Wagner’s (1-5) triple to right field. Hardy walked before Rau doubled to left field to earn two more runs. Taylor knocked a bomb over the center field fence for a two-RBI homer, his fifth of the season. As the Jags batted around in the inning, Wagner walked to earn an RBI as well.

In the ninth inning, Hardy earned another three runs for GRU when he singled to left field but was allowed to score on a misplayed ball by the left fielder error, bringing Tyler Roberts and Boose across the plate as well.
