Today: Town Hall Meetings on Changes to Overtime Rules

The following email was sent by Susan Norton, enterprise vice president for Human Resources, on May 31, 2016.

Two town hall meetings are scheduled for Thursday, June 2, to share information and answer questions about the recently announced changes to federal wage rules affecting overtime pay:

  • Summerville Campus: 8-9 a.m. University Hall, Room 170
  • Health Sciences Campus: 12:30-1:30 p.m. Lee Auditorium

The new rules, scheduled to go into effect before the end of the year, establish a new salary threshold of $47,476 for employees to be exempt from overtime pay. If you are an exempt* employee whose salary is below that amount or if you manage any potentially affected employees, please take this opportunity to learn more about:

  • The contents of the new federal regulations
  • What we’ve done so far in anticipation of the ruling
  • What comes next

Since the rules were so recently announced, there are still open questions, and Human Resources is working with leadership around the organization to determine the extent of the impact and the most appropriate, most equitable and least disruptive implementation process. We may not be able to answer all of your questions at this point, but we want to ensure all potentially affected employees have the most up-to-date information available.

Additional town hall meetings will be scheduled as we learn more and move through the implementation process.
