Interested in working at NASA?

Augusta University’s Department of Mathematics is excited to host Dr. Alexander Tessler, a NASA Floyd Thompson Fellow and recognized international authority in applied mechanics and finite element methods, Friday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. in Allgood Hall E259.

Tessler will speak to students about opportunities at NASA, including an overview of current engineering and scientific programs in the areas of structures and materials for aeronautics and space application. Additionally, Tessler will discuss his own experience working at NASA, including conducting research with students, as well as current internships, fellowships and other opportunities for students at NASA. A question and answer session will follow.

After speaking to students, Tessler will give a research colloquium on “Refined ZigZag Theories for Laminated Composite and Sandwich Beam and Plate Structures” for interested faculty from 3-4 p.m.

Tessler has a PhD in Applied and Computational Mechanics from UCLA and has been employed by the U.S. aircraft industry, Army research and NASA Langley Research Center. He has taught at various universities as an adjunct professor and is credited with the development of techniques and finite element methods used in commercial, university and government software.
