Deputy’s funeral procession to affect traffic, JagExpress

The funeral procession honoring Richmond County Sherriff’s Sgt. Greg Meagher is expected to cause traffic delays on Walton Way Friday afternoon.  Memorial services for Meagher will begin at noon at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity and the procession is expected to begin around 1:20 p.m.

The procession will leave the James Brown Arena and travel south on Seventh Street towards Walton Way. It will then turn right on Walton Way and then another right on Monte Sano Avenue to Westover Memorial Park.

As a result, JagExpress delays are anticipated between 1 — 2:30 due to traffic congestion on Walton Way.

Traffic delays will depend on the number of vehicles in the motorcade, and any members of the public who wish to show support along the procession route are asked to stay on the sidewalks and out of traffic.

Meagher died Sunday after inhaling liquid nitrogen while trying to save an employee inside the Xytex facility in Augusta.
