CSRA Heart Walk: The Beat Goes On

In just a few days, GRU and GRHealth employees will gather for the 2015 CSRA Heart Walk, which will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 7 at the North Augusta Greeneway. The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s (AHA) premier event for raising funds to save lives from our nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers, heart disease and stroke.

Considering the impact of heart disease and stroke nationwide, one can imagine not only the toll it takes on the CSRA but also the role that the GRU/GRHealth community plays in improving lives. In addition to the employee-driven fundraising events going on across the campuses and health system, patients like Mike Oates and others are also giving back by sharing their stories and their time. Mike shared his story about experiencing a plaque rupture while training for a half marathon in the January 7 GReport. Mike’s photo and story, as well as that of other GRHealth patients, will appear on banners at Heart Walk and around the community for 90 days following the event.

Last year, AHA gave more than $7 million in research funding in 2014, making the university eighth in the nation for research funding – and, more importantly, helping its faculty and staff to save lives. Fundraising efforts will continue until April 10. With the GRU/GRHealth community’s support, the beat goes on.
