Today: Augusta University to participate in city-wide drill

Emergency personnel throughout Augusta will join Augusta University’s medical center in an emergency response exercise on Friday, May 4, involving a mock scenario of a plane crash at the Augusta Regional Airport.

As the regional coordinating hospital, Augusta University officials will use this exercise to evaluate the medical center’s ability to support an influx of patients during a crisis and enhance emergency response and cooperation among area emergency personnel.

The training will take place in designated areas of the medical center, including the Emergency Department. However, traffic on the Health Sciences campus will not be affected.

This city-wide drill will involve personnel from organizations including University Hospital, Doctors Hospital, The Salvation Army, Richmond County Emergency Management, and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

For more information about this exercise, contact Augusta University’s Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response at 706-667-4251.
