Augusta University President named one of Georgia’s most influential

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University President Brooks A. Keel has been named to Georgia Trend’s list of “100 Most Influential Georgians.”

Included in this month’s issue of the magazine, the 2017 list includes individuals from Georgia’s government, education and business sectors and is based on leadership, power and influence criteria.

“I am honored to be included among Georgia’s most notable and accomplished leaders,” Keel said. “I would also like to congratulate Gov. Nathan Deal, University System of Georgia Board of Regents Chair Kessel Stelling, Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis, and Walter Sprouse, executive director of the Augusta Economic Development Authority, on their recognition.”

Keel was named president of Augusta University in 2015. Prior to that, he served as the 12th president of Georgia Southern University.

Before becoming president of Augusta University, Keel served in the top ranks of academia, research and economic development in successive appointments at Louisiana State University, where he served as vice chancellor for research and economic development, at Florida State University and at the University of Kansas – Wichita.

He is a member of the Society for the Study of Reproduction, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation, among others. Keel has served on numerous boards, including the American Board of Bioanalysis, the American Association of Bioanalysts Board of Registry, the Oak Ridge Associated Universities, the Southeastern Universities Research Association and the Executive Committee of the Council on Research Policy and Graduate Education of APLU.
