Next week at Augusta University, get a first look into the university’s new course in Animation set to launch this fall or learn how the institution is empowering the community to assist in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.  Below is a snapshot of news stories to consider happening next week at Augusta University.

Augusta University launches new course in Animation

Augusta University’s Department of Art and Design will be offering a new Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in animation this fall. Students will use cutting-edge software to explore motion, performance, aesthetic appeal, visual communications, and expression. A.B. Osborne, assistant professor in the university’s Department of Art and Design, masterminded the program, and is available next week to give media a glimpse into what students can expect in the course.

Birdies for Brain Health

The Movement and Memory Disorders Center at the Medical College of Georgia is teaming up with Day One Fitness in the fight to cure Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s by hosting the inaugural AD/PD Birdies for Brain Health Charity Golf Tournament. This event will kick off at noon Monday, May 20, at Woodside Plantation Country Club in Aiken, South Carolina, and will include various contests, auctions and a raffle.

Children’s Hospital of Georgia moving summer camps to Camp Lakeside

The Children’s Hospital of Georgia has partnered with the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta to move the hospital’s summer camps from Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, Georgia, to the Family Y’s Camp Lakeside at Lake Thurmond. In honor of this new opportunity to better serve the community, leadership from Children’s will join the Family Y for a ribbon cutting-celebration at 11 a.m. May 22 at Camp Lakeside at 1238 Dogwood Lane in Lincolnton, Georgia.

CEPaR to host two workshops for Stop the Bleed month

May is National Stop the Bleed Month, and in the wake of public mass shootings, Augusta University has joined the nationwide campaign to provide training on what to do during a bleeding emergency. On May 23, the university’s Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response will hold a Stop the Bleed workshop at 9 a.m. in the J. Harold Harrison, M.D. Education Commons on the Health Sciences Campus and at 2 p.m. in Science Hall on the Summerville Campus.
